Abstract

(Abstract only) There are about 3,600 variable stars of all types in the observing program of the AAVSO. While stars brighter than magnitude 13 receive good visual coverage, there are approximately 960 stars of Mira, semiregular, cataclysmic, and nebular type and also suspected variable stars which go below 15th magnitude in their variability and do not receive adequate coverage. CCD observations would complement the visual observations and provide the fainter magnitudes needed for the better coverage of the light curves of these stars. The role of CCD photometry and its requirements in the context will be discussed.
