Proposal

Goal of Proposal:
This proposal seeks to obtain time allocation for the collection of photometric data for two nearby sun-like stars. This will serve as a demonstration for a potential small survey in preparation that would use the AAVSOnet.

Targets:
The targets are bet CVn/NSV 5725 and HD 102438. These stars are both located within 20 parsecs of the sun and are both G type stars.

Observatories and Observations:
The requested observatories are bsm_berry and bsm_nh2, using the SG,SR and SI filters. Observations are requested to be once every two days starting April 1st and ending April 30th (dates and observation frequency can be adjusted if needed). During the observations a total of two images per filter are asked to be taken. Bet CVn will be assigned for bsm_nh2 and HD 102438 will be assigned for bsm_berry.

Data Processing and Submitting:
The images will be stacked and analyzed using VPhot. Reference stars will be selected from the APASS DR10 catalog. The goal is to obtain a photometric precision of 0.008 mags or better. The final photometry will be processed with a periodogram to search for any dominant periods that may exist. The magnitudes that are obtained for bet CVn will be submitted to the AAVSO through the WebObs.

Brief Information About the Potential Survey:
If these observations are successful, a subsequent proposal will be submitted requesting more time for more stars. The basic goal of the survey will be to obtain and publish photometric data of nearby sun-like stars that may assist with future surveys (e.g. Terra Hunting Experiment) as well as current surveys (e.g. Automated Planet Finder, HARPS, ESPRESSO, etc.) for exoplanets.

This project is still sitting with New status.
Has it been ignored because the user name proposer name, "tstproject", looked too much like a "test"?
I believe this is a real proposal.

I just saw Bert's test proposals and wondered the same thing. I somehow missed the original new proposal alert.

Nathan:

What is your observer code? No profile entry.

What are sexagesimal RA/Dec for these targets?

I was wondering what the status is on this project.

Thanks,
Nathan

Email received from Nathan.
The images taken have not been forwarded to KNAC

(2108) Arne Henden — July 19, 2022, 10:51 p.m.

I think the problem is that the HD_158259 plan has KNA as the obscode and not KNAC

(4726) Kenneth Menzies — July 20, 2022, 2:28 p.m.

Nathan:

You will have your previous images in your VPhot account soon/today.

Future images will go directly to your VPhot account. Current proposal end date is Aug 31.
