Proposal

I am following up on a contact binary (EW) that has an epoch from 1967 in VStar. I plan to model this system in Binary Maker 3 as well as develop an O-C analysis in order to update the epoch for VStar. I would like to collect a series of primary eclipse observations to supplement the work I am doing with my own observatory in Mount Airy, MD

Hi Charles,

Li, et al. (Astronomical Journal, vol 149, p. 120, 2015) https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/0004-6256/149/4/120 presented some night light curves and did a pretty thorough analysis of TY U Ma, including the eclipse timings.

"night" should have been "nice"

I appreciate you finding this paper it was not listed on the VSX page. As for my project, I selected TY UMa from the Binary Atlas as a pretty well known binary as a personal project to hone my skills on binary analysis in general. I collect sufficient samples for this system from my own observatory and, hopefully, an AAVSONet observatory to allow me to independently model the system with binary maker and compare my results with the published parameters from the Binary Atlas.

This last year, I had completed a project for a previously unobserved /unpublished system, V0919 Cep. I successfully modeled it in BM3, at least from a using the tool.

This project is about verifying my techniques with a well known system to give me better confidence that my observatory and tools use are providing accurate results.

The TAC has approved this project.

Chuck:

You need to provide me with a specific list of eclipse times to observe. I will send you a plan template file to provide this info.

Committed to TX for time series.
